VEGAN EASTER IN AUSTRALIA
Easter is one of my favorite holidays of the year. My mom always prepares the best breakfasts or brunches. We spend time with family and have the best dinners. But this year was a little different, because I am in Australia…
A little homesick
The past few weeks haven’t always been easy. I felt homesick and had really bad days where I just started crying out of nowhere. Fortunately things are better now. I talk to my parents and brother almost everyday. Sometimes this makes it a little harder, and it makes me miss them more. But I think it is very normal to feel homesick. Especially if you are gone for so long.
Last week, the Easter craziness started in Brisbane. There were events in the city, and the supermarkets were full of Easter treats. Of course, I was thinking about Easter at home. But instead of being sad and feeling homesick, we decided to continue our Easter traditions here. We have met the best people here in Australia and we asked them to have an Easter brunch with us on Sunday.
Vegan Easter Brunch
On Sunday, we went over to our friends house and everyone brought some food. They decorated the table and made vegan/gluten-free banana bread and cookies. We drank tea, had some Australian hot cross buns and had the best time. It really felt like I was with my family, a second family I have here. The perfect vegan Easter brunch!
I feel so blessed to be able to be here and for the people that I have met in Brisbane. Within a week, David and I are going to start our road trip. It will be hard to say goodbye. It is funny how you can build friendships in such a short time, it feels like we’ve known each other for years.
Next year, I will probably be spending Easter with my own family again. But this year was the most special Easter and I am so happy to have spend it with my amazing Brisbane Family. If you want to see the video I made from our brunch, make sure to check out my YouTube channel.
Lots of love,
